LPL 2022 Match 15: Dambulla Opened the Winning Account With 48-Runs Win Against Galle Gladiators

In the 15th match of Lanka Premier League played between Dambulla Aura and Galle Gladiators, DMA outshined GGD. With this win, Dambulla Aura registered their first ever win of this Lanka Premier League edition.

In today’s match, Dambulla Aura made five changes in the line-up and this had done wonders for them. The toss and luck favoured Dambulla today and they opted to bat first. Daniel and Jordan Cox opened the batting while Imad Wasim bowled the first over. In the first 5 overs, Dambulla didn’t lose any wicket and put 43 runs on the scoreboard. Both openers looked confident from their body language and batting. They successfully took DMA to a score of 70 in 10 overs without giving away their wickets to Galle Gladiators. Jordan Cox completed his maiden 50 in the tournament for Dambulla in the 12th over. Both batters kept hitting sixes and fours even on the finest deliveries of the overs. Dambulla scored 155 runs in 17 overs. However, in the 18th over, Shevon got dismissed by Pradeep at 80 (55) and soon, Jordan also departed at 77 (58) in the 19th over. However, the damage was already done by these batters.

Dambulla put 178-5 in 20 overs and Galle Gladiators had to chase 179 to win the match.

In response to the stormy innings of Dambulla’s openers, GGD’s had a shaky start as they lost Mendis to Shanaka while he was trying to chip away the ball. In the next over, Madushan made Dabare transit back to Madushan at 4 (5). After 2 overs, GGD were 14-2. However, Lahiru  and Shafiq tried to stablise the sloppy innings of GGD and successfully put 46-2 in 5 overs. However, soon Shafiq was dismissed by Madushan at 28 (14), giving a huge dent to GGD’s growing and going innings. After 10 overs, GGD scored 72-4. After his excellent batting performance, Jordan did wonders with his fielding as he dived for a one-handed catch to dismiss Lahiru at 32 (32). GGD put 98-6 after 14 overs. But, they kept losing wickets while chasing a gigantic target of 179 and didn’t settle in any phase of the match. DMA bundled out GGD at 130 in 19.4 overs to win the match convincingly by 48 runs.
