Many cricketers are incredible at their skills but unfortunately didn’t get enough opportunity to show their abilities & hard training on the pitch. Despite being the best player on the domestic ground & jaw-dropping performance in a few international matches, they aren’t considered for further selection.

Do you want to know why and who was behind that?

We are talking about the Indian former captain and one of the best wicketkeepers of all time, Mahender Singh Dhoni.

During his career, he backed many players to the hilt, but there are some cricketers, as per cricket records who didn’t get a right chance under Dhoni’s era.

Let’s check out the name of those cricketers in this article.

6 Players Faded Away Under MS Dhoni Dominance

1. Yusuf Pathan

Yusuf Pathan is renowned for his outstanding middle-order power-hitting skills and can also make crucial breakthroughs with his right-arm off-break. In the 2007 T20 World Cup final, Pathan was first inserted as a surprise package to confound the Pakistani bowlers. He quickly scored 15 points before being apprehended. The Men in Blue eventually won by a narrow margin of five runs to become world champions.

Yusuf’s professional career culminated on April 2, 2011, when India won the ODI World Cup at the Wankhede Stadium.

Yusuf Pathan, however, received very few opportunities moving forward as the Indian side went through a transitional period following their World Cup victory. However, the senior Pathan brother didn’t get a chance to represent India after March 2012.

2. Piyush Chawla

Piyush Chawla made his international debut in March 2006 when he was just 17 years old during a Test match against England. From that point on, the then-emerging leggie was well-prepared to become India’s next star spinner. The only member of India’s 15-person team, Chawla, did not participate in any of their historic victories at the 2007 T20 World Cup in South Africa.

The cricketer from Aligarh became a regular member of the Indian team and was also selected for the side that will co-host the 2011 World Cup with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

However, Piyush did not receive many opportunities after winning the World Cup, nevertheless, he managed to remain there for more than a year. After a home Test match against England in December 2012, he never again wore the India shirt.

3. Munaf Patel

Munaf Patel is one of the unsung heroes of Indian cricket who did not receive the recognition that he deserved. Patel, who debuted at the highest level in March 2006 at the age of 22, appeared to be a promising medium-pace and received support from the team’s captain at the time, Rahul Dravid.

Patel was virtually always present in the Indian team, including during the Caribbean World Cup of 2007, where India lost in the group stage. The biggest turning moment in Patel’s career, nevertheless, occurred when India won the 2011 ODI World Cup on home soil, with Patel playing a crucial role in the team. He prevented the Men in Green from winning by dismissing the well-positioned Pakistani opener Mohammad Hafeez and Abdul Razzaq in the semifinal.

After that victory, it appeared as though Munaf Patel would be the Indian pace team’s next great thing, but following the cricket updates that was not to be as he played his final India game at the age of 28 in September of that same year.

4. Robin Uthappa

One of the bright young stars that steered India’s progress under Greg Chappell was Robin Uthappa. His ferocious hits at the top of the order are still vividly recalled today. He was sometimes thought to be too hasty due to his anger, which finally resulted in a string of failures.

Despite having played in 46 ODIs and 13 T20Is for India, he was not given enough opportunities. Uthappa continues to be an important member of any team as a wicketkeeper and batter in the bottom middle order. However, MS Dhoni’s presence rendered a comeback for him all but impossible, and never played after the Zimbabwe tour in July 2015.

5. Manoj Tiwary

Manoj Tiwary is an illustration of a good cricketing talent who, despite putting on regular displays with the bat for many years, was never allowed to shine. The Bengal cricketer had to wait three more years after the tri-series before making a comeback after making his international debut in February 2008 against Australia in Brisbane.

When the Bengal batsman produced an amazing century in the fifth ODI with India down to 1/2 against West Indies in 2011, it seemed as though his struggles were gone. Even while he deservedly won Player of the Match for that performance, it wasn’t enough to guarantee him a spot on the Indian team going forward.

However, he was no longer seen in any international cricket after the tour of Zimbabwe 2015 limited-overs series according to cricket records.

6. Irfan Pathan

This is perhaps the greatest name that MS Dhoni’s captaincy prevented from experiencing a fairytale push. Irfan Pathan, then 19, raised eyebrows when he clean bowled Adam Gilchrist during the Adelaide Test in December 2003. He was then hailed as the “Next Big Thing” in Indian cricket.

He even participated in some of MS Dhoni’s greatest victories for India, such as the 2007 T20 World Cup and the Commonwealth Bank tri-series in Australia, 2007–2008 season. Irfan, meanwhile, was in & out of the Indian team beginning in early 2009, which ultimately caused him to miss the unforgettable 2011 World Cup.

Irfan did make a comeback the following year, but he was unable to hold his own against the fierce competition within the Indian team during the transitioning period. By 2012, he was no longer in the starting XI. The Indian cricketer from Baroda was a member of the team that traveled to England and Wales for the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, but he did not play in a single match. As a result, he gradually went off from the national team.

Summing Up

As the audience, we don’t know what happened before or after the match. Players who aren’t seen even after their unbelievable performance may be due to some of the reasons that we are unaware of even today.

But to worry, as per sports news cricket Indian team is performing great and the key players make India feel proud every time.
