Lanka Premier League: Colombo Stars Wins in Style Against Kandy Falcons; Qualifies for Final

It’s Thursday, December 22, 2022, the world witnessed a competitive game of cricket that was played between Colombo Stars and Kandy Falcons. Colombo Stars won the toss and chose to bowl first. Nissanka and Fletcher came on crease to open the batting while Rajitha opened the attack. Rajitha dismissed Nissanka and Fletcher early in the first over. The score after 2 overs was 11-2. Nabi bowled out Kamindu Mendis who was looking dangerous today at 23 (29). Hasaranga powered KDF to 73-3 in 11 overs. Kandy had a great return. They were devastated by Kasun Rajitha, who grabbed two wickets and saw Benny Howell lose a third. They have since posted 168. Many thanks to Ashen Bandara and Hasaranga as a team. Although Colombo were glad to give them the second practically every time the ball went to the deep, they were excellent because they ran hard and the Kandy skipper in particular smashed the ball beautifully. The last over blows and the 92-run stand had given Kandy the upper hand. Both on the field and with the ball, Benny Howell had a forgettable day today. Kandy put 168-6 in 20 overs.

In the run chase, Madushka and Chandimal came on the crease while Udana opened the attack. Braithwate sent Madushka to the pavilion at 11 (8). After 2 overs, the score was 13-1. Asalanka and Chandimal were playing their crucial knock as it was a race to the final and they didn’t want to lose anything. The duo powered CLS to 86-1 in 10 overs. However, Chandimal was dismissed by Mendis at 38 (33) in the 13th over. Soon, Asalanka got run out at 64 (40). After Asalanka and Drakes were eliminated one after the other, there were some nerves, but the seasoned professionals weren’t having it. Colombo advances to the final thanks to a brilliant finish from Angelo Mathews and Ravi Bopara. The majority of the chase was under their control because to Asalanka’s outstanding knock.

CLS scored 169-4 in 18.5 overs and won the match by 6 wickets. CLS eliminated KDF from the race to the final.
