The squads, Melbourne Renegades and Adelaide Strikers came against each other at Docklands Stadium, Melbourne. With both the captains on the pitch, Melbourne Renegades won the toss and opted to bowl first. 

To open the batting attack, Short and Head came to the crease on the opening bowling of Tom Rogers. In the first over only, Short lost his wicket and the left-handed batter, Alex Carey came to the crease. After 3 overs, ADS got a score of 3-1. 

In the 4th over, Carey crunched the first two fours of the innings. After 6 overs, ADS score shifted to 25-1. Scoring 19 runs in 32 balls, Head lost his wicket to Fawad Ahmed and the right-handed batter, Adam Hose came to the crease. 

In the 11th over from K Richardson, Carey clubbed two four and a six. Fueling 11 runs off 7 deliveries, Hose got a dismissal from Rocchiccioli and the side crossed the half-century with a score of 66-2. After 12 overs, ADS jumped to a score of 79-3. 

In the 14th over, Carey edged two fours and crossed his 50-run stand while the ADS boys crossed the century with a score of 100-4. Adding a huge score of 65 runs in 47 balls for the side, Carey got holed out on the throw from K Richardson. 

In 20 overs, ADS posted 142 runs on the scoreboard with a loss of 7 wickets. 

Chasing down the target of 143, Guptill and Shaun Marsh came to open the batting attack on the opening bowling of Short. In the first over only, Guptill smacked the first six for the side and lost his wicket. The right-handed batter, Sam Harper took the batting charge. After 3 overs, MLR got a score of 20-3. 

After 6 overs, the MLR score shifted to 37-3 and the side crossed the half-century, standing at a score of 56-3 after 8 overs. In the 12th over, Critchley lost his wicket to Siddle, scoring 35 in 29 balls and the score got to 85-4 by the end of that over. 

In the 18th over, Finch crunched two fours and a six, getting up to a score of 134-4. Melbourne Renegades scored 143 runs in 18.2 overs with a loss of 4 wickets and won the match by 6 wickets.
