At Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram, India and Bangladesh came against each other for the 1st test match. India won the toss and opted to bat first.
Cheteshwar Pujara and Shreyas Iyer powered India to a score of 278-6 on the first day of the test match, fueling 90 runs in 203 balls and 82 runs in 169 balls, respectively.
When India stood at a score of 48 with a loss of 3 wickets, the side was struggling hard. To handle the crucial position, Pujara and Rishabh Pant and then Pujara and Iyer formed a powerful duo to reach 278-6 at stumps.
Pujara only lagged 10 runs to complete his first test hundred after Jan 2019. Meanwhile, Iyer ended the opening innings with 81 not out. When India initiated to bat first, the captain of Bangladesh might have wished the grass cover to favor the seamers to dismiss more batters.
However, the pitch was more favorable to fast bowlers, compelling Shakib to bring himself on as early as the 6th over.
Bangladeshi seamers, Ebadot and Khaled Ahmed weren’t of much help for the side. Most balls were well outside off the pitch. Taijul Islam gave a breakthrough to Bangladesh team, dismissing Shubham Gill.
Axar Patel sustained a bat-pad appeal when Bangladesh was denied the review but the replay displayed a clear inside edge on the pitch. Mehdy captured him for lbw on the last ball of the day to keep his side strong in the opening test match.
