India and Sri Lanka came against each other in the final of the Asia Cup 2023 at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first. 

Nissanka and Kusal Perera came to bat and Bumrah opened the bowling attack. In the 1st over, Kusal Perera got out for a duck on the third ball and Kusal Mendis hit a four on the fourth ball, which was the first boundary of the match. In the 4th over, Nissanka got out after scoring 2(4) on the first ball, Samarawickrama got out for a duck on the third ball, Dhananjaya hit a four on the fifth ball and got out after scoring 4(2) on the last ball. It was a dream over from Siraj, he took four wickets in an over.

In the 6th over, Shanaka got out for a duck on the fourth ball. In the 9th over, Kusal Mendis hit two fours on the second and fourth ball. In the 12th over, Kusal Mendis got out after scoring 17(34) on the second ball and Hemantha hit a four on the fourth ball. In the 13th over, Wellalage got out after scoring 8(21) on the third ball. In the 15th over, Pramod took a single on the first ball and Sri Lanka reached 50 runs. In the 16th over, Pramod got out after scoring 1(6) on the first ball and Pathirana got all out for a duck on the second ball.

In 15.2 overs, the former champion, Sri Lanka, got all out at  50 runs.

Chasing 51 runs, Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill came to bat and Pramod Madushan opened the bowling attack. In the 1st over, Shubman Gill finished the over with a four. In the 2nd over, Ishan Kishan hit back-to-back two fours on the fourth and fifth ball. In the 3rd over, Shubman Gill smashed back-to-back three fours. In the 5th over, Ishan Kishan started the over with a four and Shubman Gill finished the over with a four. In the 6th over, Shubman Gill finished the over with a four and India reached 50 runs. India scored 51-0 and won the match by 10 wickets. India lifted the Asia Cup after five years for the 8th time.

It’s India’s biggest ever ODI win in the history whereas Sri Lanka recorded their lowest ever score in the Asia Cup’s history.
