As per the latest cricket news today, Virat Kohli hit his 71st international century and rose 14 places in the rankings of ICC’s T20 batters, and secured 15th place for himself. Kohli and the present Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, are the only two players in the top 15 ICC rankings covering all the 3 formats.
Before the Asia Cup, Kohli had drifted to the 33rd position in the ranking of T20I, but he gained back momentum in the multi-nation tournament scoring an impressive 276 runs in five games to get to the 15th place in the latest rankings.
Kohli has secured the 60th position in ICC T20 all-rounders ranking, coming in the top third amongst Indian players after Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja.
How Kohli Regained Shape?
The 33-year-old had a tough time in 2022 and was in bad shape, struggling to score runs freely as he did before. Kohli faced hardships in securing 20 runs, his highest, during the Indian tour of England in July.
After that, he took a month-long break and later revealed in an interview that for the first time in his life, he had not touched the bat for an entire month. Virat returned as an opener for the Asia Cup in the match against Pakistan, refilled and rejuvenated with energy and passion. He scored a short 35-run knock in the first match and consecutively scored half-centuries against Hong Kong and Pakistan.
Unfortunately, the former captain could not open his account in the match against Sri Lanka. However, after a much-awaited period of 3 years, the Delhi-born batsman scored his 71st international century – his maiden T20I ton in the match against Afghanistan in India’s Super 4 final match of the Asia Cup 2022. He scored a match-winning 122 out of 61 deliveries.
Rankings of Other Players of Team India
According to the latest cricketing news, Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav continues to hold the 4th position in the T20 rankings after Mohammad Rizwan.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, team India’s seam bowler, came in the top 10 position due to his commendable haul of five for four in the Asia Cup Match against Afghanistan in the final Super 4. He secured the 7th position from the 11th position. KL Rahul has reached the 23rd position from the 30th position. Spin bowlers Ravichandran Ashwin, and Axar Patel, have also improved their positions. Ravichandran Ashwin moved up nine places to the 41st position, and Patel moved 14 places to secure the 57th position.
